SCAHT & COVID-19: In case of general inquiries or messages please send an email to info@scaht.org.

While the unprecedented public health emergency resulting from COVID-19 continues to evolve, SCAHT is affected in the same way as any other academic institution. Our top priority is of course the health and well-being of our staff and their families. Like everyone else, we are doing our best to continue working under difficult circumstances. After having restricted laboratory-based research to the bare minimum, our host universities are slowly beginning to ease the restrictions in line with government provisions. Without doubt, our research programme will be affected but this is not unique to the SCAHT and we will have to see what the long-term consequences will be for us, and for research as a whole in Switzerland and elsewhere.

All face-to-face teaching has been cancelled and we have been converting our lectures to online teaching. Fortunately, IT systems were available to support this and we very much hope that the impact on learning can be kept at a reasonable level. All non-laboratory-based activities of the SCAHT are currently also largely taking place remotely. The offices of the directorate and the regulatory toxicology group have been closed for several weeks now and staff are working from home, but we are making good use of "virtual" team meetings. Our regulatory work continues at pace, as do our contributions to international regulatory efforts, mainly through conference calls since work group and expert meetings have all been cancelled or postponed.

We hope that you manage as best you can in these difficult times. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us. On behalf of all of us at SCAHT I wish you all the best and, above all, that you remain safe and healthy.

Martin Wilks
SCAHT Director
